Order Tara's Bicycle Touring Cookbook Today!

Selling Everything

by Tyler
Moving

We are spending the weekend boxing up what few belongings we want to keep and giving, selling or throwing away everything else. Unsurprisingly it is very cathartic. We are almost done sorting through the 200lbs of books we collectively own. I thought about selling them all too but Tara convinced me otherwise.

As look at all that I have accumulated in the last five years I can't help but laugh a little at how much more simple things could and maybe should be. I don't know where we're going to end up in the next few years but I do know that when we settle down I will think a lot longer and a lot harder about the things that I buy and why.

Thank god for craigslist and the weirdos who want to pay us money for our old crap. I long for the day when my only possessions are strapped to my bicycle.

I'm in the process of selling all my stuff as well in preparation for my 5 month journey by bike through Europe. And yes, Craigslist is my biggest buddy! But bicycle touring really does teach you that you don't need all that stuff to be happy.

What happened to the cat? :(

They (there are two) are living with my sister these days. They're outdoor cats now, and both of them are doing really well. They follow my sister and her husband on walks just like a well trained dog!

We are really excited to see them again :)

The Darren comment, from 2 November 2008 is Darren Alff, of bicycletouringpro.com and gobicycletouring.com. That's pretty cool!
