The Titanium Single Cup I is just that—a cup and most certainly not a mug. For some reason this very important detail escaped us as we were doing research, and we decided to purchase two of them. We chose them because we were foolishly concerned about the weight and space of our mugs (neither weight nor space is an issue for us) and wanted them to be stackable.

The whole reason I wanted mugs in the first place was to have something warm and cozy to wrap my fingers around when the weather turned chilly, to have comforting cups of tea in the morning and creamy hot chocolate at night. Unfortunately the Snowpeak Titanium Single Cup I does not fit the bill. When filled with a hot liquid, the cup instantly becomes equally scalding. Touching the sides or trying to drink out of it results in painful burns. By the time the cup is cool enough to drink out of, the liquid inside is tepid at best.

We ended up stacking the cups one inside the other for extra insulation, but they are still a disappointment in the "mugs" department, unsurprising as they are not marketed as such. To fulfill my warm-beverage desires I bought a cheap and simple blue melamine mug at a camping store in Oxford that does the job much, much better.

If you only drink cold beverages, don't already have water bottles, are extremely concerned about weight, and have money to burn, this overpriced cup might be for you!
