Impromptu Garden Update: July

by Tara

Here's the update after a month after planting our first impromptu garden: the peas are doing great. One cucumber plant is growing like crazy. The salad mix and arugula were chowed on by the slugs. Mache never came up. Garlic chives are looking and tasting like grass? The sprouty potatoes (from Clear Brook Farm) are going gangbusters. Grow, babies, grow!

Maybe it is grass! The hay bales we had back in Kelowna must of had seeds in them, because they sprouted and grew grass in the spring.

Otherwise, your garden is looking awesome!

Thanks, Magalie!

You know, that makes a lot of sense. I bet it is from the hay bale itself!

Our peas are just fruiting. Unfortunately, one of them got weed whacked to death, and the remainder are in imminent danger from the cucumber which is trying to take over the world. I think it's the kudzu of the north. The tomatoes are suffering from a Goldman Sachs disease: they got too big (7' tall!) and now they can't support their own weight and are toppling over on top of everything else. I have a hobo arrangement of cages and stakes that is getting toppled as well.

Isn't it fun?
