Buskers of Athens: Part #1

by Tyler

During our walk around Athens yesterday, we ran into lots of buskers. We only got recordings of two of them, but I think we'll capture a few more over the next week.

There were numerous accordion players of varying skill levels wandering around town. A pleasant-sounding one roamed the restaurants playing for diners, a sad looking woman squeezed out what sounded like basic scales, and this guy was easily the best of them:

Our favorite was an Iranian santur (like a hammered dulcimer) player named Omid Tahmasebpur. His hands were a masterful and impressive blur as he played:

That's awesome! The field recordings really sound great. I'm mondo impressed. Thanks for the quick reply on the ease of use of the H4N Tyler! I haven't gotten there yet, but did you run into many buskers in southeast Asia? If it's a spoiler than no worries on a reply. I may try to pick up some instruments when we are there in Feb.

So far, I the only buskers we've seen in Southeast Asia were the mine victim bands at Angkor Wat. Where will you be in Feb? We'll probably be in Laos somewhere, maybe we can meet up?
